5, 6 or 7 Days in Georgia: The Perfect Itinerary (2026 Guide)

Georgia Travel TbilisiWelcome

Planning a Georgia itinerary? Whether you have 5, 6 or 7 days, this complete guide covers the best routes, highlights and practical tips for your trip — written by a local Georgia-based travel company.

Georgia packs an extraordinary variety into a small country — ancient cities, mountain villages, wine valleys, a Black Sea coast and some of the most dramatic scenery in the Caucasus. Whether you have 5 days, 6 days or a full week, this itinerary guide will help you make the most of your time. As a local Georgia-based travel company, we have arranged private trips for hundreds of travellers from India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and beyond — this is the itinerary we recommend most.

What to Expect in Georgia

Georgia is roughly the size of Sri Lanka, which means the main highlights are all within comfortable driving distance of Tbilisi. Most visitors base themselves in Tbilisi and take day trips or overnight excursions from there. The roads are good on the main routes, the scenery is spectacular, and there is always something new around the next corner.

• Capital: Tbilisi — vibrant, walkable, full of history and great food

• Mountains: Kazbegi / Gergeti — just 2.5 hours from Tbilisi

• Wine country: Kakheti region — Georgia is one of the world's oldest wine regions

• History: Mtskheta (UNESCO), Gori, Uplistsikhe cave town

• Black Sea: Batumi — beach city, botanical gardens, nightlife

• Food: halal, vegetarian, Jain and Indian food all available in Tbilisi and beyond

5-Day Georgia Itinerary

Five days is enough to cover the essentials — Tbilisi, the mountains and one more highlight. This is our most popular itinerary for travellers on a shorter trip.

Day 1 — Arrival & Old Tbilisi

Arrive at Tbilisi International Airport. Private transfer to your hotel. After check-in, spend the evening exploring Old Tbilisi on foot — the sulphur baths district, Narikala fortress, the colourful balconied houses and the cable car up to the Kartlis Deda statue. Dinner at a halal or vegetarian restaurant in the old town.

Day 2 — Tbilisi City Tour

Full day in Tbilisi with a private guide. Visit the ancient Metekhi Church, walk Rustaveli Avenue, explore the National Museum, browse the Dry Bridge flea market and relax in the botanical gardens. Optional: a guided food tour of Tbilisi's markets and bakeries.

Day 3 —Kazbegi & the Gudauri Mountains

An early start for the most spectacular day of the trip. Drive north along the Georgian Military Highway through mountain villages, stopping at Ananuri fortress and the Zhinvali reservoir. Continue to Gudauri for panoramic mountain views, then on to Kazbegi town. Take a 4x4 up to Gergeti Trinity Church (2,170m) with Mount Kazbek (5,047m) as the backdrop. Return to Tbilisi in the evening.

Day 4 — Mtskheta & Surroundings

Morning trip to Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (one of the most important churches in the Orthodox world) and Jvari Monastery with its dramatic hilltop views over the rivers. Afternoon at leisure in Tbilisi — shopping, cafe visits or a hammam experience in the sulphur baths.

Day 5 — Departure

Private transfer to Tbilisi International Airport. Safe travels — we hope to welcome you back to Georgia soon.

6-Day Georgia Itinerary

Six days allows you to add Kakheti wine country to the 5-day route — and it is absolutely worth it. Georgia is one of the oldest wine-producing regions in the world (over 8,000 years of winemaking), and the Alazani valley is beautiful in every season.

Follow the 5-day itinerary above, then add:

Day 5 — Kakheti Wine Country

Drive east to the Kakheti region for a full day of wine, history and beautiful landscapes. Visit Sighnaghi — the 'City of Love', a perfectly restored walled town with sweeping views over the Alazani valley. Tour a family winery and taste Georgian wine made in traditional clay qvevri pots. Visit David Gareja monastery complex on the border with Azerbaijan if time allows.

Day 6 — Departure

Private transfer to the airport. Or spend a final morning in Tbilisi for last-minute shopping at the Rustaveli or Abanotubani areas.

7-Day Georgia Itinerary

A full week gives you the freedom to slow down, explore at your own pace, and add a completely different experience — Batumi and the Black Sea coast, or a second mountain region like Borjomi and Bakuriani.

Follow the 6-day itinerary above, then add:

Day 6 — Travel to Batumi / Borjomi

Option A — Batumi & Black Sea: Drive west to Batumi (around 5 hours or a short flight). Georgia's main coastal city is a surprising mix of Soviet-era boulevards, modern architecture, a long beach promenade and a beautiful botanical garden. Great for families and couples.

Option B — Borjomi & Bakuriani: Drive to Borjomi, famous for its natural mineral water springs and national park. Continue up to Bakuriani for cool mountain air, pine forests and, in winter, skiing.

Day 7 — Return to Tbilisi & Departure

Return drive to Tbilisi (or fly back from Batumi airport). Final transfer to Tbilisi International Airport.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 5 days enough for Georgia?

Yes — 5 days covers Tbilisi, Kazbegi and Mtskheta comfortably. You will see the highlights and have time to relax. If you have more time, add Kakheti or Batumi.

What is the best itinerary for first-time visitors to Georgia?

We recommend Tbilisi (2 nights) + Kazbegi day trip + Mtskheta + Kakheti. This covers the key highlights — history, mountains and wine — in 5 to 6 days.

Can I do Georgia as a family trip?

Absolutely. Georgia is safe, affordable and family-friendly. The mountains, cable cars, old towns and open landscapes are great for children. We arrange private transport and halal or vegetarian meals for families throughout the trip. See our dedicated pages for tours from India, tours from the UAE and tours from Saudi Arabia.

Do I need a guide in Georgia?

You do not need one for Tbilisi, but a local English-speaking guide makes a huge difference for Kazbegi, Mtskheta and Kakheti — they know the history, the best stops and the roads. All our tours include a private English-speaking guide and driver.

How do I get around Georgia?

The most comfortable way is a private car with a local driver — we arrange this for all our guests. It gives you full flexibility on timing and stops. Public transport is available but limited for mountain routes like Kazbegi.
