Destination Wedding in Georgia (the Country): The Best Venues, Legal Marriage & Planning Guide
Snow-capped peaks above a 14th-century church, vows among Kakheti's vineyards, a candle-lit feast in Old Tbilisi — a destination wedding in Georgia, the country in the Caucasus between Europe and Asia, is one of the most memorable ways to get married abroad. Georgia combines dramatic scenery, an 8,000-year wine culture, legendary hospitality and one of the simplest legal marriage processes in the world for foreign couples.
This guide covers the best wedding locations, how foreigners can legally marry in Georgia, weddings for couples from every culture — European, Asian, Indian and mixed-nationality — the best season and how guest logistics work. It is written by TbilisiWelcome, a local company in Tbilisi that has organised wedding programs for up to 260 guests.

Why Choose a Destination Wedding in Georgia?
- Variety in a small country: mountains, vineyards, historic monasteries, a characterful capital and the Black Sea coast, all within a few hours of each other.
- Simple legal marriage: foreign couples can register a legally valid marriage quickly, often on the same day they apply.
- Wine and feasting culture: the Georgian supra (feast), toasts led by a tamada and polyphonic singing turn any reception into an experience guests remember.
- Easy for international guests: many nationalities enter visa-free or with a simple e-visa, and direct flights connect Tbilisi with the Gulf and Europe. See our Georgia visa guide.
- Value: venues, hotels and catering generally cost less than comparable weddings in Western Europe or popular beach destinations.
The Best Wedding Locations in Georgia
1. Kazbegi and the Caucasus mountains
For many couples, the image that defines a Georgian wedding is Gergeti Trinity Church at 2,170 m, with Mount Kazbek (5,047 m) behind it. The village of Stepantsminda in the Kazbegi region, about 2.5–3 hours from Tbilisi along the Georgian Military Highway, is ideal for intimate ceremonies and elopements, with mountain hotels such as Rooms Hotel Kazbegi famous for their terrace views. June to September is the most reliable season for the mountains. Couples often add a day with our Kazbegi tour from Tbilisi for guests who arrive early.
2. Kakheti — vineyards and wine estates
Georgia's main wine region is the most popular choice for a larger destination wedding in Georgia. Couples celebrate among vineyards with the Caucasus range on the horizon, at historic estates, lakeside resorts and boutique hotels. Venues frequently chosen for weddings include Radisson Collection Tsinandali, Lopota Lake Resort and Kvareli Lake Resort, most about 1.5–2.5 hours from Tbilisi. Guests love a qvevri wine tasting before the celebration — the same experience as our Kakheti wine tour.

3. Sighnaghi — Georgia's City of Love
The hilltop town of Sighnaghi in Kakheti is known across Georgia as the City of Love. Its cobblestone streets, restored balconies and sweeping views over the Alazani Valley make it a natural setting for a ceremony or photo session, with Bodbe Monastery just below the town. Boutique hotels in and around Sighnaghi suit smaller weddings and family celebrations.
4. Tbilisi — historic charm and city panoramas
The capital offers everything from restaurant terraces overlooking the Mtkvari River and Old Town to hilltop venues on Mount Mtatsminda with views over the whole city, plus gardens such as the Tbilisi Botanical Garden for outdoor ceremonies. Tbilisi is the easiest base for large groups: it has the widest choice of hotels, it is close to the airport, and guests can explore the city between events.
5. Mtskheta and the countryside around Tbilisi
Twenty minutes from Tbilisi, UNESCO-listed Mtskheta and Jvari Monastery offer spiritual, historic backdrops, while country estates around the capital host elegant receptions for larger guest lists without a long drive.
6. Batumi and the Black Sea coast
For a summer seaside wedding, Batumi offers beach clubs, modern hotels and sunsets over the Black Sea, about 5–6 hours by road from Tbilisi or a short domestic flight. It works best from June to September.
7. Gudauri — a winter wedding in the snow
Gudauri ski resort, on the way to Kazbegi, makes a dramatic winter wedding backdrop for couples who dream of snow-covered peaks. Read more about the area in our Gudauri vs Bakuriani guide.
Can Foreigners Legally Get Married in Georgia?
Yes — and it is famously straightforward. Foreign couples can register a legally valid civil marriage at a Public Service Hall (often called the House of Justice) or a Wedding House, usually on the same day the documents are submitted, with no long waiting period. You can also hold a symbolic ceremony at any venue you like, such as a vineyard or mountain terrace, and register the marriage officially on a separate day.
The usual requirements are:
- Valid passports for both partners, with notarised translations into Georgian
- Proof of legal stay in Georgia, such as your entry stamp or visa
- Two adult witnesses
- A divorce certificate or other proof if either partner was previously married
- Both partners at least 18 years old — registration by proxy is not allowed
To use your marriage certificate abroad, you can order an apostille and a translation at the Public Service Hall. Requirements can change and may depend on your nationality, so always confirm the latest rules on the official Public Service Hall website or with your embassy before you travel — this guide is not legal advice.
Weddings for Every Culture and Nationality
Couples from all over the world choose Georgia — from Europe, Asia and India, and increasingly international couples from two different countries who want a neutral, beautiful place where both families can come together. We have planned weddings for mixed-nationality couples — for example a German and Indonesian couple — and welcomed wedding couples and guests from across Europe and Asia. Whatever your traditions, language or religion, we adapt the ceremony, menu and program to you.
Indian weddings
Georgia is quickly becoming a favourite for Indian destination weddings — and it is easy to see why. The landscapes give every function a different backdrop: a mehendi among vineyards, a sangeet in a Tbilisi ballroom, a baraat through a garden estate, the pheras with mountain views. Flights connect via the Gulf, Indian passport holders can use a simple e-visa (and many with US, UK or Schengen visas enter visa-free), and multi-day celebrations are easy to build into a trip guests will treasure.
For Indian weddings, we take care of the things that matter most:
- Pure vegetarian, Jain and halal catering, including Indian chefs and menus
- Venues that can host several functions over multiple days
- Hotel blocks across one or several properties for large guest lists
- Coaches and minibuses moving hundreds of guests between hotels and venues on schedule
- Decor, flowers and lighting for every function
We recently coordinated a wedding for 260 guests from India, from airport arrivals and hotels to guest transport between venues and vegetarian dining. Read more about travelling from India on our Georgia tours from India page.
European and mixed-nationality couples
European couples love combining a legal registration in Tbilisi with a symbolic ceremony in Kakheti or Kazbegi, followed by a traditional Georgian supra. For couples from two different countries, Georgia is a meeting point both families can reach easily, and we help blend both cultures — bilingual ceremonies, menus that honour both cuisines, and guides for guests in English, German, Russian, Spanish or Chinese. We have also hosted 160 event and wedding professionals from Europe on a celebration-focused program across Georgia.
Small weddings and elopements
Not every wedding needs hundreds of guests. Georgia is perfect for an intimate ceremony with close family, a two-person elopement on a mountain terrace, or a stylish wine-country celebration for 30 to 80 guests.
Best Time for a Destination Wedding in Georgia
- May–June: green landscapes, mild temperatures and flowers — one of the best periods overall.
- September–October: golden light and the grape harvest (rtveli) in Kakheti — a wonderful time for vineyard weddings.
- July–August: ideal for the mountains and the Black Sea, but Tbilisi can be very hot, so plan city events for the evening.
- Winter: magical for small snow weddings in Gudauri or Kazbegi, with some mountain roads weather-dependent.

- Catering — including vegetarian, Jain and halal requirements
- Decor and flowers — from minimal elegance to full Indian mandap set-ups
- Photographers and videographers
- Hotels — room blocks for your guests in one or several properties
- Transport and logistics — airport transfers, business-class cars for the couple and families, and coaches for guests
- Guest experiences — tours, wine tastings and sightseeing before or after the wedding
Every wedding is different, so we prepare an individual proposal for each couple based on the date, guest count, venue and services. After the celebration, many couples stay on for a romantic trip — see our 7-day honeymoon package.
