Gudauri sits at about 2,200m on the Georgian Military Highway, roughly 2–2.5 hours by road from Tbilisi. From late December to March it is covered in deep snow, while Tbilisi itself rarely sees any. Your Route: Ananuri, Gudauri and the Friendship Monument
On the way north we stop at Ananuri Fortress above the frozen Zhinvali Reservoir — one of the most photographed views in Georgia, especially with snow on the hills. We then climb along the Georgian Military Highway to Gudauri. When the road is open and conditions allow, we also visit the Friendship Monument viewpoint just above the resort.

Best Time for a Gudauri Day Trip
The snow season usually runs from late December to late March, with the deepest snow in January and February. Weekends and the New Year holidays are the busiest days at the resort, so weekdays are calmer if you have a choice. What to Wear and Bring
Warm, waterproof layers, gloves, a hat and sunglasses are essential — the sun on the snow is strong even when it is cold. Waterproof boots make a big difference if you plan to play in the snow rather than ski. Ski clothing can also be rented at the resort.
